Biography of Burning Fire

Burning Fire, is a South African reggae & gospel music band, SATMA award-winning, formed through an enduring strategic musical alliance amongst melomaniac musicians. Being in love with music their whole lives, Khuthadzo ‘Ambasada’ Mavhusha, Freeboy ‘Mufeelister’Mbengeni and Ronald ‘Dj Light’ Mahumele joined forces and collaboratively aspired for an impeccable delivery of sweet melodies through their newly initiated meritorious group named “Burning Fire” which was successfully formed in the year 2019.

The eldest member of the group, Khuthadzo ‘Ambasada’ Mavhusha (35) grew up listening to reggae music inspired by his uncle ‘Calvin Mavhusha’ in the 90s at a remote village of Tshifudi, outside Thohoyandou. He is the group leader, a songwriter, vocalist, recording and performing artist who have consistently manifested musical glamour since the inception of his musical career. In 2017, ‘Ambasada’ started recording some of his music and has since been on the pursuit for musical limelight.

Freeboy ‘Mufeelister’ Mbengeni (26), started his musical aspiration as a hip-hop artist back in the year 2008 where he worked with various hip-hop artists such as Coolfelo and Prifix. In 2012, Freeboy drew inspiration from his brother Khuthadzo ‘Ambassador’ Mavhusha and has since demonstrated a conspicuous passion of reggae music, his own utterance was “Khanne muzika wa reggae ubva phanda”, translated as “reggae comes first for me”. With over 12 years in the music industry, Freeboy has mastered the art of music as a songwriter, vocalist as well as a recording and performing artist.

Ronald ‘Dj Light’ Mahumele (26), a naturally born music star grew up with a musical state of mind from a young age when he played musical jingles with empty tins and sticks. The 26 year old from Tshaulu village is tended to be friendly, courteous and highly civilised. Moreover, Dj Light has swayed the group with his overarching set of musical talent including sound engineering, producing, song writing, vocalist, recording and performance arts.

Their music is largely influenced by reggae & gospel rhythm which is graced by a flow of melodious messages that blaze the audience with a dose of sensational healing and upliftment. Burning Fire released their first debut album entitled Dzanga la Mesia on the 20th of December 2019, released by Director Maboko Music, a division of Director Maboko (Pty) Ltd. Recording sessions took place from 2018 to 2019, at Kalamawe studios with the executive direction from Romeo Maboko Maboko and Nthabiseng Sandra Maake, all of these tracks are produced by DJ Light assisted by Ambasada with the direction of the sound. All songs on this album are composed by K.K Mavhusha, F Mbengeni, and R Mahumele and Burning Fire collaborated with featured guests from a multiple TSHIMA awards nommeni, songwriter, Venrap artist: Batondy, Ndadzi One, 40Ks, and Ramza One and the album is available on all major digital stores worldwide and still currently praised and hailed as a lyrical buffet.

The band’s debut performance at the 2019 Les Royals Reggae Festival on the 15th of December remains one of the group’s biggest spectacles to date. Burning Fire has been performing at local establishments and the band’s fan-base is growing faster ever since the joint.

In April 06th 2020, during the coriv-19 lockdown Burning Fire released a single track entitled Pombani mbanzhe for free downloads at Director Maboko’s website. Followed by other singles such as Don’t let we die featuring Ndadzi One, Mudzimu ndi black and Mma (2020) which are all available online stores worldwide. In 31st August 2020 Burning Fire released a music video for the single titled Don’t let we die which was premiered on YouTube channel. The music videos was inspired by the world’s pandemic Covid-19, sending message to the creator (God) of all to help and protect his people. Before the end of the year 2020, in December 13th. DJ Light drops a solo single entitled Vhafudzi vha si vhone.

Due to high demand of music from the supporters on social media, Burning Fire released a single taken from their album Miloro song titled Emmanuel featuring Batondy released on the 31st Jan, 2021, followed by Fola Langa single released on the 24th Feb, 2021. In 03rd March, 2021, the band released a digital project an EP entitled Vhurena Hau produced by DJ Light with features guests’ appearances from 40Ks, Ndadzi One, CoolFelo, Askay, and Pfesesani Murendi. On the 1st June, 2021, The band was featured on a digital project Haya Ha Muzika Mixtape Vol 1 a collection of tracks from (DMM) Director Maboko Music artists at that like LP MiDALO, Signal Rollen, Ambasada, DJ Light, Freeboy, Thora Thora, and TM Matika, including guest appearances Ramza One, Ndadzi One, Vha dogi, and Benzu La Murendi and three featured artists Young Kenny, TygaBoy Mukoni, and Mr Lovers.

In 2021 October Burning Fire released another leading single titled Ho Khudaho. Followed by their second debut album entitled Miloro (2021) comprising of 14 tracks with four featured appearance Batondy, Laz, Vha Dogi, and Ndadzi One. Miloro is the second debut by Burning Fire, it was released on December 9, 2021, by Director Maboko Music, a division of Director Maboko (Pty) Ltd. Recording sessions took place from 2020 to 2021, with Romeo Maboko Maboko and Nthabiseng Sandra Maake serving as the record’s executive producers. All songs are produced by DJ Light and all songs are composed bu K.K Mavhusha, F Mbengene, and R Mahumele. The album comprised of 14 tracks with featured acts such as Ndadzi One, Batondy, Vha Dogi, Ramza One, and Laz and it is available for streaming and downloading online stores worldwide. Since the release of the album Burning Fire funbase is growing very fast, with more than 4 track from the album rotating on national and local radios. On the 30th of July 2022, South African Traditional Music Achievement (SATMA) awards held at Emalahleni/Witbank in Mpumalang provice announced that Burning Fire are nonimated for the Best Reggae Artist/Group.

In 2022 Burning Fire band were exploring more of solo projects, started by Ndi pfa u vhavha, a single by Freeboy, released on March 2, 2022 followed by Muzika, a single by DJ Light, VHA DOGI, Mr Lover X, and Burning Fire (April, 2022). All singles were released for free downloads on director Maboko's website and also available online stores worldwide. Road To Zion which is an EP by South African records producer singer-songwriter DJ Light a member of Burning Fire in collaboration with Ndadzi One. It was released on May 6, 2022, by Director Maboko Music, a division of Director Maboko (Pty) Ltd. The EP was released for free to stream on YouTube. Road To Zion was entirely recorded in South Africa, Tshaulu at Royal Family studios, with production, handled primarily by the DJ Light. DJ Light and Ndadzi One collaborated with feature guests Sims Mal, Mr lover, VHA DOGI, Lazlow, Rass Teedow, Jah Raphias, Given Madzunye, King Belle G, and Ras JNR.

Burning Fire were recently featured on Haya Ha Muzika (Mixtape) Volume 2, a mixtape by Director Maboko Music artists (Burning Fire, LP MiDALO, Signal Rollen, and DJ Adu Afrika). It was released on June 18, 2022, by Director Maboko Music, a division of Director Maboko (Pty) Ltd. The mixtape features productions from DJ Light, Freeboy, Ambasada, Ndadzi One and 40Ks, among others and it features guest appearances from Vha DOGI, De Base, Young Kenny, Dr Less, and Hardboy. Haya Ha Muzika (Mixtape) volume 2 is released for streaming on YouTube.The mixtape is a collection of records selected by execlusive producer and chairman of the record label Romeo Maboko Maboko. Haya Ha Muzika Mixtape Volume 2 is a continuation of the first series of Haya Ha Muzika mixtape volume 1.
